Renewable Energy, Energy and Resource Efficiency Promotion in International Cooperation
A word from the steering group
Dear Sir or Madam
The International Energy Agency's (IEA) World Energy Outlook 2023 shows that although two-thirds of the world's population live in emerging and developing countries, they receive only 15% of total investment in clean energy. This gap not only reveals a serious disparity between countries, but also highlights the need for varied financial instruments in all areas of climate financing. The new REPIC Rollout instrument aims to reduce the risk for investors by financing the barriers to the commercialisation and thereby mobilising additional private capital in developing and emerging countries. Water filters, fish farming and salt batteries are the areas covered by the first three REPIC Rollout projects. More information about one of the Rollout projects below.
Save the date : the annual REPIC event will take place on 28 November 2024, in Bern. At this occasion, the platform will be celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Look back at the REPIC annual event
On 30 November 2023, the annual REPIC event was held at the Eventforum in Bern. Nearly 80 people gathered to hear presentations from the four federal offices and the players involved in various REPIC projects. The topics of carbon credits and the importance of partnerships within projects were discussed. African fusion cuisine ensured that participants enjoyed a convivial lunch break. We are pleased to announce that our next annual event will take place on 28 November 2024 in Bern. On this occasion, REPIC will celebrate 20 years of activity.

New projects
Sustain - Tanzania The first REPIC-rollout project has been launched by Sustain Switzerland. It involves marketing the AQUASMART solar and energy efficiency concept developed in the pilot phase from 2021 to 2023. This will optimise fish farming in terms of both energy efficiency and resource management. Two other REPIC-rollout projects were launched in early 2024.
Bioconvision - Uganda An insect farm will be used to produce black soldier fly larvae for two main purposes. The larvae naturally process the organic waste they are fed. Secondly, the insects themselves will be transformed into animal feed, providing an effective source of protein and reducing the need to import soya and fish.
Ongoing projects
SuisseDev - Mali The preservation of fruit and vegetables is often a problem in West Africa. In Mali, the Swiss Association for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa is overseeing the implementation of solar-powered cold storage facilities. Five cold rooms have already been built and purchased by local farmers' cooperatives. They are currently in use and optimisation work is underway to improve the preservation of fresh products.
EBP - Colombia The public buildings of the Colombian National Apprenticeship Service need to be brought up to energy efficiency standards. To this end, EBP Switzerland is coordinating a project involving students in technical courses, with the aim of improving the comfort of classrooms. Temperature and humidity measurements have been taken and analysed. A photovoltaic system will soon be installed on one of the buildings.
Recently finished project
Nouvelle Planète II - Vietnam For its second project in Vietnam, Nouvelle Planète has exceeded its targets. A total of 491 households have installed biogas cookers in their homes. Animal waste can now be recycled as energy for cooking. Partner Climate Service estimates CO2 savings at around 1.8 tonnes per year.
Fastenaktion - Colombia Solar water pumps, refrigerators, egg incubators, a feed transformer and electric fences have been built and commissioned. 12 community energy managers have been trained and 15 jobs have been created. A total of 1,450 people are benefiting from this project. Fastenopfer has already mobilised third-party funds to launch the multiplication of the project.
