Watalux is a young company based in Geneva, active in the development and distribution of solutions to meet the water, hygiene and sanitation needs of at-risk populations. In collaboration with its partners in India and Benin, it plans to develop and produce an innovative water chlorination system and monitoring software.
Description
In developing countries, water contamination causes numerous health problems for the population. One effective disinfection method is the use of chlorine. Watalux plans to produce chlorine locally in Benin and to develop an innovative system to purify water effectively. Initially, five flow-through water chlorination prototypes will be developed in India. Two machines will then be sent to Benin for the first on-site tests and data collection. Training for 8 specialists, including at least one woman, is also planned.
Results
Two prototypes of the system were initially built. One was used for field tests in Auroville (India), while the other was taken back to Switzerland for further optimisation. Based on the findings from the field test and further laboratory studies in Switzerland, three more systems were assembled.
Once assembled, two of the prototypes were delivered to Benin, where testing, training and data collection began alongside the identification of potential customers with whom initial contact was established. Two prototypes remain in Switzerland for validation, demonstration and calibration.
