Description
This project involves establishing an entire value chain, from the collection of dried faeces to the production of biochar and biochar-enriched compost, as well as marketing.
Key elements of the project are certification for carbon removal credits (C-Sink) and the development and testing of practical business, financing and investment models for replication.
Results
The market assumptions could be verified. Lebanon’s agriculture urgently needs to shift toward sustainable soil management. Biochar compost mixtures offer strong potential due to their soil health and carbon sequestration benefits.
The sludge sampling and analysis activities confirmed the strong potential of wastewater sludge in Lebanon as a viable feedstock for biochar production, showing favorable carbon content and dryness suitable for pyrolysis.
