The Swiss partner has broad experience in the field of grid-connected PV systems and education. The ISAAC institute’s photovoltaic sector is a Swiss Competence Centre for PV module testing.

Description

This project consists of the realization and monitoring of a photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected pilot plant in the context of Kathmandu Valley. It is derived from the encouraging results of the first REPIC feasibility study on grid-connected plants in Nepal. The electrical network’s current unreliability and users’ growing needs (small and medium enterprises, as well as the population) can be resolved through decentralized and partly autonomous electricity supplies.

The pilot project foresees the design, construction and monitoring of a 1 kWp grid-connected PV plant with a back-up system, which can function as a mini-grid.

In addition to the pilot plant realization, the project also includes training activities, as well as an important part consisting of demonstration and dissemination of the plant’s performances and its overall technology characteristics.

The experience will also serve as a reference for similar possible developments in other low income countries.
