Swiss Contribution

The selected Swiss technology will transform biomass into energy through gasification. 45 000 tons of biomass per year shall be treated by the installation; it shall be operated by an independent energy producer.

Description

The project’s goal is to establish an energy production installation through the processing of rice husks, an agro-industrial biomass residue, and reeds in Ross-Béthio, in the St. Louis region of Senegal. Energy sales, particularly electricity, will be guaranteed by signature of a Senegal Electric Company (Senelec) purchase agreement, so that distribution can be made to the national network. Thermal sales will be done through contracts drawn up with local partners. Furthermore, the remaining ashes produced through gasification will be sold as raw material on the worldwide market. The project will, to the extent possible, benefit from carbon emissions laws.
