Swiss Contribution
The ZHAW Center for International Industrial Solutions has many years of proven experience in the management aspects of the circular economy, from the development of implementation roadmaps to the design and implementation of circular business models. The additional Swiss and Vietnamese project partners dispose of long-term experience in pyrolysis and photovoltaics.
Description
The project aims to design a pilot integrated agrivoltaic-pyrolysis system including characteristics (business model, partnerships, costs and revenues for farmers, legal aspects, etc.) to be implemented in the tea-producing province of Nghe An or other tea-growing provinces. The specific implementation roadmap will detail steps required for the deployment of such technologies and business models at full scale, that is the modalities of a pilot plant and of the multiplication of such plants in consideration of legal and political aspects.
Results
Sound business models are now available for AgriPV and pyrolysis. The Agri-PV concept is attracting interest due to various synergies and an interesting business case. Tests have shown that acacia wood chips are well suited for pyrolysis. The local producer now offers optimised pyrolysis plants. Initial application tests in Vietnam showed that adding 10% of the biochar produced to compost yielded good results, which need to be investigated further.
For Vietnam, with a high proportion of fossil-based electricity, the AgriPV pyrolysis approach is recognised as having a clearly positive environmental impact by a factor of seven to eight.
Impacts
The local partner Dong Nai, a producer of jackfruit and bamboo shoots, will build a 99 kW agri-PV system as a successor project.
To further develop the project, the follow-up project XL Green!Tea is planned, for which funding of CHF 235,000.- has already been secured.
As part of the project, 10 people were trained and various stakeholders were informed.
