The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) has several years experience in industrial composting and international cooperation. Generation Carbon has already provided technical support for various projects around the globe involving the construction of pyrolysis plants. Both organisations have also been involved in several REPIC projects, amongst other things.
Description
FiBL has already successfully implemented a project in the Ivory Coast, also funded by REPIC, on the composting of organic waste. The project now planned here is intended to follow on seamlessly from the other one and complement it. Palm oil production and coconut cultivation, amongst other things, generate biological waste with a high lignin content that cannot simply be composted. Coconut shells and palm kernel shells are therefore to be processed in a pyrolysis plant in future. The resulting biochar can in turn be mixed with other compost, thereby contributing to soil regeneration. In this way, a previously unused waste product is put to good use. The waste heat generated throughout the process is also to be used for drying the fruit.
