Swiss Contribution
The team of Swiss experts composed by Ecopartner (international coordinator), FiBL and Biomass Switzerland have extensive technical expertise and many years of experience in implementing projects on solid waste management in developing and emerging countries.
Description
The overall aim of this project is to establish a replicable, comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable model for managing municipal organic waste through composting technologies in Turrialba and Pérez Zeledón.
This project will strengthen composting processes, produce high-quality compost, estimate and monitor greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions, evaluate the potential for soil carbon sequestration, promote and optimize the use of compost produced in crops, and manage knowledge dissemination. The inter-municipal exchange of best practices and foster intersectoral partnerships will be important project elements. Future replication at the national level will be supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the Institute for Municipal Development and Advisory Services (IFAM), and the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Centre (CATIE).
