Swiss Contribution
EBP Schweiz AG has proven long-term experience in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields within the building sector. Its experience in the implementation of Net Zero Energy buildings in Switzerland will contribute to accelerating the transition towards more sustainable building norms in Colombia.
Description
The Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA) is a public institution offering technical education and training in Colombia. As the owner and operator of many buildings throughout the country, SENA has the responsibility to follow public policies on energy efficiency. The pilot-project will carry technical analyses in three SENA centers to establish a national retrofitting protocol. An energy and systems laboratory is planned to be implemented in Yambo. Finally, the whole project shall be integrated in workshops and syllabus to promote the Net Zero standards to the SENA students.
Results
The bio-climatic laboratory at Yumbo has been renovated and the photovoltaic installation at Pondaje is operational. A protocol for the energy renovation of SENA buildings was drawn up in collaboration with the local authorities and specialists. A meeting for women in the construction industry was a great success, with over 200 participants.
Impacts
A 20.7 kW photovoltaic plant was built on a roof of the Pondaje Campus in Cali, generating 31’050 kWh/year and offsetting 3’478 t CO2-eq/year, and resulting in 5.6% cost savings per year. In the meantime, an average of 700 apprentices a year are taking part in technical, technological and complementary training programs offered by SENA. 25 people have obtained a diploma, and 35 have participated in workshops or seminars. An internal Energy Retrofit Protocol was adopted, that can be applied to other buildings within SENA’s building stock.
