Swiss Contribution
Caritas has been active in Indonesia since 2005 within several programs. For the project, cooperation between different Swiss Stakeholders will be established; amongst others with Kuoni Ltd. and myclimate. Additionally, a Swiss SME shall be responsible for the technology of the biodiesel plant.
Description
Within the project, used cooking oil from restaurants and hotel kitchens will be collected in Bali’s touristic centers and transformed into biodiesel. A not for profit social enterprise will be established for oil collection and processing. Underprivileged people will be employed and trained in this enterprise. The produced biodiesel will be used by cooperating hotels, which can improve their CO2- balance, as well as demonstrate their ecological and social responsibility. The achieved CO2-reduction will be traded on the voluntary market (GS VER) in form of carbon offset certificates according to the Gold Standard. After a successful implementation of the project, it is foreseen to replicate the approach in other tourist areas from other countries.
