BASE (Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy) is a Swiss non-profit organization that contributes its expertise in innovative financing models and scalable business solutions for climate protection. Oorja Developments Solutions has been operating in India since 2017 and specializes in solar-powered irrigation services based on a pay-per-use (PPU) model. Together, these teams bring the necessary expertise and experience to support smallholder farmers in India.
Description
Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for millions of smallholder farmers, yet access to reliable, affordable irrigation remains a significant challenge. This project addresses critical needs in India by offering a sustainable, cost-effective alternative through solar-powered irrigation services, improving both agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. The project aims to scale Oorja’s innovative Irrigation-as-a-Service (IaaS) model, enabling 3,000 smallholder farmers to access affordable, reliable irrigation services without the burden of high upfront costs.
