Swiss Contribution
LEDsafari has been active with solar training programmes in India and Africa since 2016. It will provide the sensor and data management platform. Being an EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne) spin-off, LEDsafari is closely collaborating with various EPFL environment and energy labs.
Description
Monitoring, control and payment technologies can have strong positive effects on the drivers of mini-grid profitability – revenues, tariffs and costs. Appropriate monitoring capabilities also give confidence to investors and enhance the customer experience by improving the reliability of supply.
LEDsafari has developed a plug and play affordable sensor (HelioHealth), which when connected to the energy supply system (e.g. solar photovoltaics) and monitor, detects faults using machine learning in the cloud and provides solutions to fix them using e-learning modules. During the project, the sensor and its IT platform will be adapted for mini-grids in India, for monitoring small-scale energy generation (<5 kW solar system) and load consumption (e.g. solar pumps, DC devices). 100 sensors will be deployed at 15 locations and various business models will be tested.
