Swiss Contribution
First Climate (Switzerland) is a service provider in the fields of climate change mitigation, renewable energy and sustainable development. Swiss know-how transfer will include First Climate's expertise related to renewable energy financing and implementation, as well as access to international climate and carbon finance.
Description
The grid connection of many rural communities in Argentina is too weak to support the country’s increasing electricity demand, leading to an unstable power supply and an increasing need for back-up diesel generations. The traditional strengthening of the centrally supplied grid is very costly.
The objective of First Climate and its local partner HINS is to contribute to the broad implementation of decentralized renewable energy solutions in rural Argentina with this project. The initial focus is on photovoltaics in the provinces of Córdoba, Mendoza and Buenos Aires. Three components are included in the project:
- adaptation of existing technical and contractual models to the local context
- implementation of at least one pilot photovoltaics project
- development of the documentation required for attracting public and private climate finance for a subsequent large-scale roll-out.
