Swiss Contribution

SFW is a socially responsible, private limited company which has extensive experience in project management and water treatment. SFW has developed a solution for decentralized and low-cost clean drinking water production, based on solar energy. Following a pilot project co-financed by REPIC in Senegal, SFW is now at the beginning of a major drinking water treatment program that is taking place in Senegal.

Description

The Altiplano plateau is located between Bolivia and Peru and covers an area of 144'000 km2. The average altitude of this fragile ecosystem is about 3600m. This high plateau is inhabited by more than 3 million people. More than 60% of the urban population does not have access to clean drinking water.

The project aims at the sustainable improvement of the drinking water supply by:

  • the local production of drinking water and the construction of 7 water kiosks,
  • the fine tuning of the existing business model (water sale revenues finance machinery maintenance and local salaries), and
  • the improvement of the system energy efficiency by 20 to 30%.
