Title

Energetic Retrofit of Residential Buildings in Bosnia-Herzegovina

Project Type

Pilot Project

Swiss Partner

Caritas Switzerland, Monique Frey

Technology

Energy Efficiency

Description

In a pre-project (October 2008 – March 2010), 10 houses are undergoing an energetic retrofit at the moment. The project is being conducted with measurements and calculations. The first calculations were made during the first winter before insulation was installed and then during the second winter after the building envelop was insulated. A pilot and demonstration project under REPIC shall now complement the running project (goal: development, test and recognition of a baseline and monitoring methodology) in order to enlarge the 10-building pre-project into a 500-building program. This shall be achieved through public awareness, expert recruitment and methodology confirmation and improvement. With the pre-project results, accurate calculations for a large building retrofit program can be made and its planning and financing can be initiated. Therefore, another 50 house owners should start an energetic retrofitting of their houses in the summer 2010. The goal is to launch a building retrofit program with local professionals in 2011 and continue for several years. This program shall also include infrastructure, training of professionals, planning and construction build-up capacities, construction supervision, quality control, credit initiation and CO2 transfer. A part of the retrofitting building and the program costs shall be financed by CO2 compensation.

Country

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Swiss Contribution

Caritas Switzerland has been working in Bosnia-Herzegovina since 1992. Initially activities were mainly focused on emergency assistance; later, also on the repatriation grant and the reconstruction. This project is also a result of the local architects' network and the reconstruction.
