Growing Fuel in Developing Countries - Lessons from Brazil and India

 

A Swiss seminar on Biofuels with a focus on developing countries was held on 31 October 2006 in Bern upon the initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The seminar was organised jointly by the interdepartmental REPIC-platform together with IISD (International Institute for Sustainable Development). It was addressed to members of the Swiss Federal Administration as well as to select organisations with activities or interest in this subject.

The seminar was attended by about 60 participants coming from Swiss government agencies, research institutes, NGOs, the private sector and international organisations. The seminar was structured along three main sessions: an opening session, a session with case studies from Brazil and India, and a session relating to future challenges and perspectives. Ronald Steenblik from the IISD's Global Subsidies Initiative served as the moderator of the seminar.Biofuel Seminar, Growing Fuel in Developing Countries, Lessons from Brazil and India. A CD ROM (available at the REPIC secretariat) with a summary of the seminar contains the given presentations as well as relevant documentations and publications.
