Title

Biogas Utilisation in Brasil, Kwonhow and Technology Transfer

Project Type

Feasibility Study

Swiss Partner

Ernst Basler + Partner, Zollikon

Technology

Biogas

Description

A first rough market analysis as well as various discussions with Brazil have shown that there is a very large potential for biomass; and on the other hand, there is also a clear need for biomass energy recovery technologies. The state of Brazil encourages renewable energy use. Switzerland and other European countries have developed with other biomass concerns co-fermentation technologies for agricultural farmyard fertilizer from which biogas can be extracted.  This is particularly of interest in southern Brazil where large pig fattening farms and chicken farms are located; representing a great market opportunity.

The cost effectiveness is provided under Swiss circumstances.  However, in Brazil these circumstances cannot be compared.  A first rough estimate shows that efficiency can be achieved with more in-depth budgeting for project preparation and electricity tariffs reached within the framework of the PROFINA program.  It is important that animal excrement can be supplemented by high energy biomass (co-fermentation) as is done in Switzerland and/or other European countries.

Swiss Contribution

A feasibility study in conjunction with an in-depth market analysis and optimal technological procedures, as well as know-how transfer from Switzerland to Brazil should be defined.  Possible Brazilian partners have already been contacted.  Through an understanding reached between the Brazilian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce SWISSCAM and the University of Sao Paolo, the existing market, political and science networks are also used.
